Late to the train and the tension ensuing closely

This story is funny now that I think of it, however, I assure you it certainly wasn’t humorous when I was present in that situation. My life has always been full of problems and tragedies. It is like one big sitcom. I usually refer to the fact that god has given me a fate similar to Jethalal. So this happened on 12th November when I was traveling from Frankfurt to Whittenberg which takes about four hours. This was the second time that I was traveling in Germany. The first time, I was so scared of any sort of drama striking that not only had I reached early but I also had a quite peaceful journey. Though this time I don’t know what overcame me, I assumed that when the train would leave, a siren would ring and it would give me time to board it.

So, I kept all my luggage which included my clothes, passport, and laptop on the train and came out after which I decided to smoke a cigarette. That was probably the biggest mistake I could make unknowingly. The siren rang for like 3 seconds and before I could even register it, the doors had closed. The train stood on the platform for like a good 30 seconds during which I kept knocking at the door frantically for it to be opened even after knowing that I was just making futile attempts.

Instantly I panicked. A lot. And then it struck me that I had technically missed the train so I could board another train to the same station and so I did. The train I boarded was just 30 minutes behind the previous one and I was a wreck. Tears almost sprung to my eyes as I ran different scenarios and realized none of them were actually good. I seriously could not comprehend what to do but I knew I had to do something. Then I realized and called my friend in Wittenberg who has been living in Germany for about 6 years and told him about the entire incident that took place.

He told me not to worry and said that mostly the luggage would reach Wittenberg as I had placed it and if it did, he’d be there to pick it up for me. Then I was a bit reassured and had come to terms with the situation and knew that I could do nothing but wait. Nevertheless, it did not make me feel better about the situation at all. I called my wife and informed her about the situation and she was worried but quite confident that I would find it.

She also sent me a helpline no. for lost luggage in Germany which I called but the recipient of the phone call told me that all I could do was fill out an online form and that was about it. So I went to the website in hopes of filling out the form but to my surprise, the form was in german which I didn’t know at all. So, I tried to get the executive to help me out but she was adamant that I had to fill it on my own. I tried to translate the entire page into English but I was unable to, so, I took a screenshot of each and every question and option and ran it in Google Translate in a lot of separate tabs.

By the time I finished filling out the form, I got a call from my friend in Wittenberg that he had found my luggage. I was so relieved. It was like the world made sense again. I had probably never felt this relieved. I couldn’t wait to go home and just sleep after the exhausting time that I had.
