MUN : First Experience

Recently, I attended my first ever Model United Nations (MUN - DWMUN). In the beginning, I was frightened and didn't know if I would actually make it through the event without embarrassing myself or stuttering but thankfully nothing of that sort happened. The experience was enriching. It was really good. Also, the chairpersons and the moderator were extremely helpful and guided us very well. They also answered all of our questions patiently. So, as a first-timer, I would say they were really very considerate and accommodating.

The procedure was quite technical and seemed quite difficult to get but with 2 hours into the MUN and I had finally comprehended what we were supposed to do and what was expected of us. It was a two-day MUN. I had spoken in two moderated caucuses. They were basically the topics that you were expected to speak on. The press conference was absolutely terrifying. The resolution though was the tricky part. I didn't quite get the structure but with the help of the chairpersons and the delegates I was able to do it and it was also easier because it was unanimous decision.

I think I was able to learn loads and also improve my speaking techniques not only because of the MUN but also because of the personal feedbacks that I received from the moderator. I got a verbal mention in the closing ceremony too. All in all it was altogether a great experience and I would definitely go for another MUN whenever I get the chance.

I think if you ever get the opportunity to attend an MUN, you should definitely go for it.
